Creating covers for books that are related

Under-Resourced Learners identifies resources all students need and delivers proven practical strategies for building up these resources for every student in every school. Author Ruby Payne, is an expert on the mindsets of economic classes and overcoming the hurdles of poverty. Our assignment was to design a cover with a fresh new look while maintaining some common elements with Dr Payne’s internationally recognized for A Framework for Understanding Poverty. We used a similar ruby red and canary yellow palette and the same title font to maintain a sense of continuity. One of our favorite parts of this cover is the way the ‘l’ in ‘learners’ tucks between the ‘e’ and ‘s’ in ‘resourced,’ uniting the words visually. It’s one of those subtle things that only a designer would notice.
